Deviated Fixed Route Service –

for eligible paratransit passengers who reside within ¾ mile of the fixed route; application and certification are required for this service (see ADA online).  Reservations required.

Demand Response Service –

This is shared ride, curb to curb transportation service,  Providing services to those beyond the ¾ mile guidelines the opportunity to request a ride to the nearest fixed route or in some cases a secondary location.  Demand Response application required for this service (see Demand Response/online).  Reservations required.

Virginia Regional Transit - ADA


Reservations:  Next-day service is provided; and reservations can be made by contacting the regional office directly.  If contacting the regional office after hours; and answering machine is available to leave your request for reservation.  Messages are reviewed before service begins and added to the daily manifest to ensure next day service.  Reservations can be made up to two (2) weeks in advance, and the prior day of requested travel.  No same day reservations will be permitted, and all passengers are required to schedule a return time when scheduling their trip.  (see additional Information:  trip guidelines)


Drivers are strictly prohibited from entering private residences or destinations to assist passengers, or to assist with packages.  Services are curb to curb only.  Reasonable accommodations requests will be considered as long as there is not direct health or safety of others, vehicle remains in line of sight of driver, and request would not fundamentally alter the provided services.


Personal Care Attendants (PCA) will be permitted to accompany ADA eligible passengers at no charge.  Pets are not permitted to travel on VRT vehicles; this does not include service animals.

Complementary Paratransit Service –

 is a shared ride, origin to destination public transportation service for people whose disability prevents them from riding the fixed route buses.  Application and certification is required for this service (see ADA online).  Reservations required.

Virginia Regional Transit (VRT) provides accessible transportation to all by providing Complementary Paratransit, Deviated Fixed Route, and Demand Response services.  All VRT vehicles are equipped with mobility device lifts, electronic exterior route name signage, and bus stop announcements are provide to ensure equal accessibility for all passengers.  Drivers are trained in passenger assistance, defensive driving, and mobility device securement procedures to provide a safe and enjoyable trip.
